Sable Springs

Susan and Mike Stansbury retired in 2009 from a shared CIS teaching position at Umpqua Community College . Mike still does computer consulting on a very limited basis and since retirement we both have been enjoying the company of friends and family as much as possible. Susan says "Retirement is the best job I've ever had!" Travel has become an increasingly important part of our lives and Susan is always looking at new destinations for our next journey (see link below - Susan & Mike's Travels).

The first major retirement project was building an outdoor, wood-fired brick oven (WFO). That was followed with an additional project of building an enclosed patio area around the WFO. Since Mike is still fascinated with dragonflies and damselflies, the WFO patio area has been dubbed The Dragonfly Den and the oven named DD. The oven & den build pictures can be seen via the Dragonfly Den link below. Both Susan and Mike have been enjoying the challenge of converting recipes from a conventional oven to the WFO environment and you can see some of our creations through the Great Eats in the Den link below. Additional notes and photos of The Dragonfly Den's WFO construction have been posted in the FornoBravo photo gallery. If you are looking for WFO tools and accessories at low prices -plus friendly, fast service- check out Frankie G's informative site www.fgpizza.com and also FornoBravo. Note that the forum members on the Forno Bravo site provide an amazing source of information about building and using wood fired ovens.
